In the spirit of Bangernomics I offered my 1995 BMW 525iSE Auto
I had owned the Bimmer since September 2006 and it had been one of my best cars ever. It would be easy to give away a car I hated, but this was a real wrench. And the winner is? Well before we get to Bangernomic bottom line of this competition, hats off to all those, all five of you who made the effort. I did get rather more people who found out I was giving a car away and simply emailed their delivery address, but we felt that a little more effort was required.
Indeed I don’t think anyone bargained for the cinematic epic that was Russell Speilberg Gowers celebration of the Rover 416 GSI. He even interviewed the cars owner Tim Smith and had titles, tracking shots and a soundtrack. If Russell isn’t snapped up by a motoring based TV programme there is no justice. He can though feel hard done by the fact that he has not won the BMW.
Lewis Wilkinson loved the competition so much he entered it twice, with two great films about his 140 quid VW Jetta GT which even had Bangernomics written onto the chalkboard painted bonnet. Ants Cossar did his best to big up the Ford Orion, while Shaun Beadsworth did the same for the venerable Saab 900.
However, the winner was Dunstan Rickard who did not only get the judges vote, but the popular one too. Although a fairly shambolic figure mumbled around a green BMW and notched up nearly 4000 views (Mr J Ruppert) it was Dunstan who managed to rack up significantly more hits than any other entrant. That is because he gave a very good explanation of just what Bangernomics is all about. On top of that he is going to take my old Bimmer on holiday. That is not only very nice of him it is also for a very good cause. A Charity Rally from Calais to Casablanca will raise much needed funds for the Autistic Society and the school that Dunstans son attends. See pic of a fat middle bloke in shades and a leather jacket next to a very nice chap called Dunstan who is confident of driving 100 miles home without breaking down, actually a couple of years later...
Our Saab 9000 and Volvo V70 both went to deserving homes for nothing.
Got a car you don’t need? Then give it to someone who does and tell us about your good deed...long Live Bangernomics
Look our old Bimmer has been on holiday! Check out the postcards below when it did the Staples to Naples without blowing up. Indeed 35mpg at various points and 105mph on the Autostrada. Most importantly £5000 was raised for charity. www.bangers4ben.co.uk
